BS1 09 – Tours and Time
Where we only intended to stay a week in Bucksport, in total we spent almost a full month there before we pushed off the dock and headed toward our northern slip paid through the rest of 2020. Partially this was because the slip wouldn’t be vacant until Sept.1, and partially because we wanted the best travel window, but either way we weren’t in a big hurry to leave.
During our stay in Bucksport we were able to revisit Wacca Wache and enjoy a Pontoon Plantation River Tour, Lexi and her friends stopped by and rented the Bucksport Pontoon for a nice river cruise one afternoon, and otherwise (due to the location’s remoteness) we stayed mostly focused on our projects and were able to get a lot accomplished. A win, win situation overall.

We continued work on the new head (details to be revealed via video shortly); William installed LED lighting in the port hull storage cubbies and tackled a lot of other miscellaneous electrical work in the build up to the new solar configuration, while I concentrated on updating the old port side chart table/desk area and making canvas awnings for our lower side windows. Oh, and I painted the exterior of our Dutch doors.

In the end the perfect weather window presented itself and we knew it was time to go. We waved farewell to our friends and enjoyed a lovely trip on a day that was not too hot, not too sunny, not too populated, and overall just about perfect for being on the water, arriving at our destination in just under 5 hours.
The trip itself was amazing and I hope I can capture enough of our travels going forward for everyone to experience a great bit of being on the water in some way. I am bad at documenting the actual travels on video but I hope to improve that, I just need to work on getting a better camera instead of needing to use my iPhone all the time – which we also use for navigation.
Our new location is…well, it’s an adjustment. It has it’s pros and cons, but I’m trying not to judge. We have a short time here and a lot to accomplish if we want to leave in December, and that is still the plan so the work continues albeit with more frequent (and entertaining) interruptions. But hey, why live on a boat in these excellent locations and not enjoy them, right? Possibly I should share more of those adventures online as well, I’ll think about that.
Besides playing tourists and checking out some local attractions, so far we have managed to stay on track with our work and I can report that our lithium batteries are on order and all components are installed, ready, and waiting for their arrival. Currently we are watching the weather (hurricane Ian), and once he passes we need to start ripping into our galley.
I know we said we weren’t going to refit the galley and to be fair we’re not doing a full refit, just removing the old top access cooler/icebox, re-locating our current unit which will become our freezer, and installing the new refrigerator. Also we’ll be installing our new water filtration system, backsplash, and adding new countertops.
Hopefully soon the winds will be cool enough for me to be able to turn off the air conditioning, throw open all the windows, and get down to some serious sanding and painting. While I realize this may not be your idea of fun, or excite you nearly as much as it does me, I can assure you that I have been waiting a long time to get this work in focus and I am stoked!
Stay tuned folks, our posts have slowed but there’s still plenty of activity happening! Time is our nemesis currently but we’re sticking with the plan: Bahamas, December 2022!
Until next time, fair winds!
